How long will it take to be able to read piano music?

I would like to be able to look at a basic piece of music and play it… Nothing too advanced. I can play guitar by tabs and chord sheets, but would like to be able to play simple pieces of music on the piano. For someone not trying to learn piano seriously, would lessons or learning by books on music theory be better? Thanks so much.

Best way to learn piano chords?

I’ve got my major scale down and I’m starting to understand the basics of music theory. But learning all of these chords seems really overwhelming. I understand triads and the formula that goes with them to create minors and all. But what about larger chords. What is the best approach to learning those? Should I pick a new chord everyday and play it up and down the scale and play the chord in every note? What would you say are the best steps to take?

how would you classify this kind of piano lesson?

i was wondering what it would be called if i said i wanted to work on my understanding of piano chord compositions, with chord roots, the roles of 9ths 5th’s and 6th’s, of minors and majors. And learning how they can contribute to a song. (ie happy/upbeat feel, sad/dramatic vibe). would this be considered music theory or is there another more appropriate term for this type of learned??

{if you need further explanation, and am confused about what i’m asking, feel free to ask}

my dad has a guitar so that’s why i’m kinda leaning towards the guitar. but the piano sounds amazing when ppl play it. um im not really good at notes. when i was in choir in soph. year, we had to learn like music theory. so i had to learn like the notes names, lines, bass clef, ect. and i was horrible. i don’t remember it now of course cuz i do not care and its SO hard. i played piano before when i was 8 but quit after 2 months. which should i play or easier to learn? i’ll be a senior in the fall so i will be busy with college stuff but i want to play a song or 2 by sept. oh and i tried to learn chords but on youtube when ppl play it, it sounds good but when i play it, it sounds weird?!! i’m planning to self teach myself… thanks
