Thomas Newman (1953-) is a member of an American film-scoring family, his father being the composer Alfred Newman (1900-70), who tied with John Williams as the second most Oscar-nominated person in history (behind Walt Disney). His most recent score is to the 2009 movie ‘Brothers’. ‘Any Other Name’ comes from Newman’s Grammy-winning soundtrack to Sam Mendes’ 1999 movie, which starred Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening and Thora Birch. The soundtrack as a whole made was minimalist in concept, and made particular use of world and electronic instruments. This published piano solo version of ‘ Any Other Name ‘ seems to be a condensed version of the full number, which lasts for about 4 minutes and uses electronic(?) pads to accompany the piano chords. This version captures the atmosphere of the longer piece very well. I have played it as written, except that I have deliberately cut the first static chord from 12 beats to 4. If I have left it at its full length, I think I would lose a lot of viewers before the piece gets going! ——————————————————————————————————————————— Played by Phillip Sear www.psear.co.uk

David Archuleta – My Kind of Perfect ~piano accompaniment with chords~

My little sister and I bought his new album (deluxe version! “not potatoes, tortilla chips!!!” XD) on Tuesday, and I fell in love with this song! It reminds me of “To Be With You.” David is so innocent and pure when it comes to how he feels about waiting for his soul mate, and future wife. He takes the words right out of my mouth and weaves it into a beautiful song ♥ Maybe I’m wrong maybe I’m right Maybe I’ll just let you walk by What can I say, maybe I’ve known you all my life Is (he♥) the one, is it today Will I turn the corner, see my future In a beautiful face Maybe… ♥ ———————— I learned this song by listening to it over and over, I do NOT have sheet music, so I beg of you to not ask me for it. Please! Please don’t ask me for it because I don’t have any! I repeat, I learned this song by ear. I wanted to play and upload it so that singers or other Arch Angels could sing to it and make a cover if they wanted to… so anyone can download it and upload (video response yay!) it, just as long as they put a link back to me :) I hope you like my piano playing! BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER sung with piano only, by Sam Harris, Live, in Concert!

Facebook ► facebook.com ► Download Sam ► SamTunes.NET Sam Harris sings BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, with piano only, Live, in Concert! “Bridge over Troubled Water” is the title song of Simon & Garfunkel’s final album together, released January 26, 1970, though it also appears on the live album “Simon & Garfunkel, Live 1969.” It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 28, 1970, and stayed at the top of the chart for six weeks. “Bridge over Troubled Water” also topped the adult contemporary chart in the US for six weeks. This song’s recording process exposed many of the underlying tensions that eventually led to the breakup of the duo after the album’s completion. Most notably, Paul Simon has repeatedly expressed regret over his insistence that Art Garfunkel sing this song as a solo, as it focused attention on Garfunkel and relegated Simon to a secondary position. Art Garfunkel initially did not want to sing lead vocal, feeling it was not right for him. “He felt I should have done it,” Paul Simon revealed to Rolling Stone in 1972. Garfunkel said that the moment when he performed it in Madison Square Garden in 1972 was “almost biblical.” In recent performances on the “Old Friends” tour, Simon and Garfunkel have taken turns singing alternate verses of the vocal. Rolling Stone named it number 47 on The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Simon wrote the song in the summer of 1969 while Garfunkel was filming Catch-22 in Europe. The song originally had two

Thus, musical ideas in improvisation are spontaneous, but may be based on chord changes. Because improvisation is a performative act and depends on instrumental technique, improvisation is a skill. There are musicians who never improvised and there are musicians who have devoted their entire lifes to improvisation. Some Info about Jazz improvisation. Improvisation is one of the basic tenets of jazz. Typically in a jazz piece, the “head” (the song’s melody along with any backing harmony) is played once by the musicians and often repeated. Improvisation by any of the musicians follows, and this is typically the longest section of a song as each musician improvises their own melody over the harmonic and rhythmic foundation of the head. When the end of the head is reached it is repeated and a solo’s length is specified by the number of repetitions of the head necessary
